ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: Enhancing Commercial Truck Driver Safety
Fueled by GRIEF! Driven by LOVE!
Fueled by GRIEF! Driven by LOVE!
The SOLE mission of Connor's Law is to promote safety throughout the trucking industry with every commercial vehicle regardless of who's driving it, what it's moving, or how far it's going. We believe that ALL commercial vehicle drivers operating in America should be proficient in the English language in order to understand instructions, laws, and signage, to enhance communication with others, and prevent commercial vehicle crashes on American roadways. If pilots are required to speak English, then why not our CMV license holders, too?
We sincerely pray your family NEVER has to face the tragedy, grief, depression, anxiety, and mental health issues that follow an unexpected loss such as ours!

I say who IS Connor because he is still with us, unfortunately in a different light.
Connor, known to most as Peanut, is my second born son, my baby, if you will. He, as well as my first-born son, Colin, was every parent’s dream as an infant--- he slept nearly 18 hours a day. That boy loved his naps – even as a teenager!
As he moved through his toddler years, he latched on to a favorite cartoon character. He took Elmo everywhere we went… to the grocery store, to day care, to visit his grandparents…. even to the bathroom because Elmo needed to be potty trained, too!
With each childhood milestone, Connor’s personality began to shine. He was a mischievous little boy -in more of a humorous way. He was never one to be in any trouble, except maybe talking back to me from time to time.
Throughout elementary, middle, and high school his spirited personality and devilish smirk drew so many kids into his group of friends. Honestly, I don’t think he ever met a stranger. Connor’s passions were not necessarily the typical boy’s passions. He was not into cell phones and video games, except for the yearly Madden football and Tiger Woods PGA games. He was extremely passionate about soccer as a young boy, even asking me to coach his team. He then switched things up and chose to play Pop Warner Football. With the kicking skills learned while playing soccer, he was chosen to be the kicker for his
team each season. He was so passionate about his pop warner team he even insisted he play while he was miserably ill with the flu and a relatively high fever. That year… his team won the championship! During middle school he was forced to decide between his favorite sports……. Should he continue with football or choose his true passion …the game of golf? He joined the North Florida Junior Golf Foundation and perfected his swing to the point of being asked to golf with the North Florida Junior PGA. Never have I been prouder of him than when he turned a member from an opposing team in for cheating during one of his high school tournaments. His integrity along with his self-taught skills earned him MVP for that tournament and the cheater was disqualified.
While I worked desperately to get his skills recognized by college scouts, after the first scout contacted him, Connor instructed me to stop trying so hard. His exact words to me were, “Mother, I don’t want to go to college on an athletic scholarship. I’ll not go any farther with golf than through college. I’m not good enough to be a professional golfer.” Well, he may have been right but, as his mom, I don’t believe it for a minute! He took great pride in his academic studies though! He never saw a grade lower than a B and only saw a B one time! He was awarded The Florida Merit scholarship and was to eventually study Physical Therapy. His plan was to open a practice with his older brother, who also studied Physical Therapy. It was extremely heartwarming to know this and
watch them make lifelong plans together. They have always been inseparable, so much so, that Connor would often be a third wheel on Colin’s dates.
When Connor found his high school sweetheart, things changed ever so slightly. His third-wheel dates changed to dates with his special girl! She received an athletic scholarship to a college in South Carolina and had to report to college several weeks before the start of their first semester. He traveled to see her on their first break of the semester, Labor Day weekend 2017. He was on his way home from what was likely one of the most special weekends of his short life. I am so much more than grateful for nearly 19 years our family had with him but more than that, I know he passed away happily. His life’s dreams were cut short, and it is now my life’s mission to keep his legacy alive while advocating for roadway safety! No parent should ever have to bury their child before his or her life has ever really begun! NO mother should have to bury the very child that she grew and carried in her womb! NO family should ever experience the pain my family has had to endure at the hands of a driver on our highways that CANNOT speak nor understand our signs, rules, and regulations pertaining to roadway safety. My son SHOULD STILL BE HERE WITH US LIVING HIS BEST LIFE!!! JOIN ME IN MY FIGHT TO ENACT CONNOR’S LAW & MAKE OUR ROADS SAFE AGAIN! DON’T DO IT FOR ME! DO IT FOR PEANUT!
Highschool Graduation, unfortunately never had the opportunity for a college graduation!
